The participant/s will have to create a monster out of plastic waste.

OBJECTIVES

  • To help students learn about the magnitude of plastic waste that is produced everyday and the hazard it poses to the environment. The size of the monster would be symbolic to the magnitude of waste produced.
  • To help students understand the type of plastic that is generated everyday and how it can be segregated.
  • To raise awareness about the plastic waste hazard and ask citizens to follow the plastic ban imposed by the government.

PROCESS

Step 1 Application form of activity to be filled by Teacher/Coordinator of school/college on behalf of the student on Panasonic Harit Umang website.
Step 2 The students will then be required to create a monster out of plastic waste.
Step 3 The students will then be required to place the monster at one of the local public areas- parks, malls etc., where it has visibility, for a day.
Step 4 The students would share awareness regarding plastic waste with the public and collect feedback forms (template shared below) from people based on the same.

Note: Five students can participate in one group from each school/college.

GUIDELINES

What to do?
  • Construct a giant plastic monster out of the plastic waste accumulated from their school/college, local areas, landfills, nearby RWAs etc.
  • The students are required to attach a placard to the monster carrying a slogan (Min 10 word long and Max 15 word long) related to the hazard of plastic waste.
  • Place the monster at one of the local public areas- parks, malls etc., where it has visibility, for a day.
  • The students would be required to share awareness regarding plastic waste with the public and collect feedback forms (template shared below) from people based on the same.
  • The students should record the activity through a 200 word write-up and 8 photos.
  • *Overall, the student/s need to submit feedback forms, a write-up and photos in a folder bearing the name of the school as the title, on the ‘Our Plastic Monster’ page - under the given theme.

Construction material:
  • The monster should be majorily made out of plastic. Students are allowed to use iron or wood, only for creating the skeleton of the monster. Iron and wood could also be sourced from waste.
Feedback forms:
  • The students would impart the awareness to the public and collect feedback forms (template shared below) from people based on the same.

*Note: The students should try to collect maximum feedback forms in a day based on which they will be marked.

Report:

The students would be required to record this activity in form on a report which in 200 words, which must include-

  • The experience of making the monster.
  • The height and width of the monster.
  • What type of plastic waste was used and from where it was collected?
  • What was the reaction of the people when they saw the monster ( can be written in the form of a quote and shared as a reaction captured on picture).
Photos:

The student would be required to submit 8 photographs including-

  • One photo of the construction process
  • One close photo of the monster where the type of plastic waste used is clearly visible.
  • One photo of the waste collection by the students.
  • One photo of the plastic waste segregation by the students.
  • Two photos of the monster in public places showing the setting where it is placed.
  • Two photos of the public's reaction to the monster.
Submission Deadline:
  • The students must submit the folder before 5PM on March 31, 2023.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. The monster would be marked on the height.
  2. The monster should be majorly made of plastic.
  3. The students would also be marked on a report they submit based on whether they have covered all the requirements mentioned under the guidelines.
  4. The number of feedback forms collected.
