ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

  • The participants will conduct E-waste collection drives at their schools/colleges, residential societies (RWAs) or at the nearby electronic shops/outlets, for a period of one month. The drive students can also conduct the drive at their respective RWAs.
  • The E-waste thus collected has to be measured and the report of the same has to be submitted as a contest entry on the Harit Umang website.
  • The minimum number of students who can participate in the drive is 4 whereas maximum is 10.
  • The collected waste would then be recycled at a recycling facility through the help of Panasonic.

OBJECTIVE

  • To help develop a close understanding of E-waste issues among students not just through theoretical but practical application.
  • To determine the type, nature and estimated volumes of waste generated.
  • Create community engagement (by involvement of RWAs and local vendors)
  • To conduct E-waste collection drives in participating schools/colleges and set a precedent for other educational institutions

PROCESS

Step 1 Application form of activity to be filled by Teacher/Coordinator of school/college on behalf of the student or the student would fill it herself/himself on Panasonic Harit Umang website.
Step 2 The students will then be required to conduct and record E-waste collection drives, record the activities (through an excel sheet, photos and a write-up) and submit the entries on the dates mentioned under the guidelines.

Note: A minimum of four and a maximum of ten students from each school/college can compete in a team.

Step 3 The group of students would collect the E-waste from their school/college, nearby vendors and the nearby RWAs. The waste can also be collected by the students from their respective RWAs but they would be responsible for transporting that waste to their school/college from where it would be measured and collected for recycling.
Step 4 The E-waste collected will be measured by the school/college on a weekly basis for a period of one month and recorded in an excel sheet (shared below).
Step 5 The students will then be required to submit the entries on the dates mentioned under the guidelines.

Note: The monthly E-waste collected will be taken by Panasonic for recycling.

GUIDELINES

Entries will be considered subject to the adherence to the following guidelines.

What to do ?
  • E-waste collection drives at school/college/RWAs/local electronic shops/outlets.
  • Measure the E-waste collected and record it in an excel sheet.
  • Submit a write up on the drive and 10 photos of the collection drives.

*Overall, the students are required to submit a write-up, an excel sheet, and a set of 10 pictures in a folder with the name of the school as the title. The folder will be uploaded on the contest page of - ‘We Recycle!’ page - under the given theme.

Conduct E-waste collection drives and measure the E-waste collected through these drives
  • The team representing their respective school/college must conduct E-waste collection drives at their schools/nearby vendors/ nearby electronic shops/outlets, for a period of one month. The students can also conduct these drives at their respective RWAs and at nearby electronic shops/outlets (where they reside in the city/town).

Note: In case the students plan to conduct drives at their respective residential societies, they would be responsible for transporting that waste to their school/college from where it would be measured and collected for recycling.

Record the collection drives through an excel sheet, a write-up and photos
  • The team would be required to measure the waste on a weekly basis and record it on an excel sheet, the format of which is shared below.
  • The group would also be required to submit a write-up of 300 words, in PDF format, about how the drive was carried out along with the pictures. The students must also mention how they engaged communities.
  • The team would also be required to take and submit at least 10 photos of the waste collection drive which must include -
    • 2 photos of the collection drive in the school/college.
    • 3 photos of collection drives at RWAs/ from local vendors.
    • 2 photos of segregation of waste
    • 1 photos of measuring of waste
    • 1 photo of the final collection by Panasonic
  • Note- The students must mention the areas in case the drives are conducted at their respective RWAs or at nearby electronic shops/outlets

  • The waste collected over a period of a month would then be collected by Panasonic from the schools and be taken to the recycling facility.
  • Submission Deadline: The student/s must submit the folder before 5PM on March 31,2023.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • The school/college which collects the maximum quantity of E-waste will be declared the winner of the competition.
  • The evaluation will be based on a cumulative calculation of the amount of waste collected per week.
  • The report and pictures submitted will also serve as a basis of evaluation.
